The REFINERY is delighted to announce that as of 1st March2011, director, Dr Lindsay Keith, will become “Film-maker in Residence” at St George’s Hospital Medical School in SW17.
In this position, she hopes to use her experience in broadcast TV and science to engage the local communities to St George’s in the research going in the medical school by developing a “lab without walls”.
She will also have the opportunity to follow the course of people who come through the doors of St George’s whether as students, researchers, patients and nursing and medical staff and tell their stories to a wider audience.
Lindsay said “I feel very privileged to have been selected for this position and look forward to the amazing opportunities which will present themselves over the course of the next year, to really explore the heart and soul of St George’s, and to be a conduit between the research thats goes on there and the wider community of people, from students to patients to medical and nursing staff, who are part of the St George’s anatomy”
About St George’s:
St George’s has been in existence since 1733 and was only the second place in the country (after Oxford) to offer formal medical training. The old St George’s Hospital is now the flashy Lanesborough Hotel, on Hyde Park Corner, with St George’s relocating to its current site in south London in 1980.
Not that there is much competition between medical students in London, but St George’s even has its own school song (to the tune of Irish Rebel Song, God Save Ireland, aka “I don’t want to join the army”)
I don’t want to go to Mary’s
I don’t want to go to Bart’s
And they say the Royal Free, is not the place to be
And Tommie’s is a place for high-born fairies
UCL’s a dump in central London
King’s is a hovel on the strand
ON THE STRAND!
I’d rather go to George’s,
To merry, merry George’s
‘Cos George’s is the finest in the land, ‘Cor Blimey!
There are two more verses to the song, but these are shrouded in secrecy
So, what do you think ?
